FRAUDS, SCAMS & SHAMS

Protect Yourself from Scammers

Sadly scammers are out in droves, and with the internet, it has become so much easier for scammers to cloak themselves while they get filthy rich by stealing your money and personal information!

Believe it or not, scamming people out of their money or personal information has become a career for some wicked minded people, who choose to engage in such nefarious activity, but unfortunately, there are many unsavory minded people out there.

Regardless of what your financial institution, credit card company, mortgage broker, or your ‘know-it-all-friend’ might tell you, if YOU get hacked, you will most likely feel as though you are all alone… in a foreign land.

You see, in the 21th century, thanks to the internet, scammers use many invisible and passive methods to steal your money and information, so it is imperative that you take proactive measures to protect yourself.

Nowadays, more than ever, it is critical that you protect your personal credentials as though your life depended on it, and I truly hate to say things like this, but unfortunately, TRUSTING PEOPLE seems to be a thing of the past.

A person should not solely rely on ‘identity theft protection services’, rather, we should all take some defensive measures up-front and on our own.

One very effective method to avoid getting scammed, believe it or not, is to simply ignore and to delete unsolicited emails and notifications.

By simply ignoring and deleting the many unsolicited online offers that are sent to millions of people via email everyday can significantly cut down on a person’s exposure to many scams.

Look, I know that incredible offers are received by millions of people everyday, myself included, but I don’t ever click on an email offer unless I absolutely know that it is coming from a vendor that I am personally familiar with.

Even then, I am extremely careful to check the ‘FROM’ email to make absolutely certain that it is a valid email address.

I completely ignore and delete any online offer from any vendor that I did not sign up with, I DON’T CARE HOW INCREDIBLE THE OFFER MAY BE!

Does this mean that I may be losing out on a great deal?

Maybe… but reducing my exposure to a scam is much more valuable to me than any great deal on any product being offered.

My solution… if the offer is something that I would seriously consider, and if the vendor is ‘KNOWN’ to me, such as a BEST BUY, Costco, or Walmart, then I would take the time to make a phone call, directly to the vendor, and ask them to verify if the offer is legit.

If the offer is legit, I would then ask if I can take advantage of the deal offline, at their store, and in-person, or, if I am convinced that the deal is legit, I would enter the vendors URL on my browser and make the purchase directly from the vendor website.

I would NEVER click on a link to an offer in an email… this action is just way to dangerous.

The internet makes our lives so convenient to shop for the things that we want and need, but you gotta know and you gotta be aware, that the internet also makes it convenient for the scammer to do their ‘JOB’.

That’s it for now.
